Poems for International Women’s Day – 8th March 2026
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’d like to raise awareness of our Sisterhood support group and thank everyone involved for their support in helping this group prosper. In particular the wonderful, dedicated facilitators, Amareen, Nazia and Leshan.
Sisterhood is a safe space for women of colour, to share experiences, ideas, thoughts and memories. Meeting on Monday’s, this unique space is valuable in so many ways.
We’d like to share a couple of poems from the group.
Poem 1 – Womanity
Womanity
Womanity is sacred, womanity is Powerful! Giving unity and peace.
Fearless is the woman with her inner fire! Fearce! Like a tiger! Soft as a bee Honey to the hive!
Women are creation, they heal nations.
Keeping us alive! The wisdom a woman carries, babies to release }
The seasons of change ebb, and flow. An air of grace, freedom for tomorrow.
A harmony no one can deny. Prayerful meditation

Poem 2 – TO GET HER
TO GET HER
So many thoughts and feelings come to mind.
When I sit and reflect on woman kind.
There are themes in stories all over the land.
That binds us TOGETHER hand in hand.
Injustice, sorrow, pain and fears.
Always going through the tears.
Bringing life, bringing joy, bringing hope.
Searching for ways to cope.
Understanding, supporting, listening and caring.
Being TOGETHER, laughing and sharing.
TO GET HER is the key.
Its about us, you and me.
