Safe Zone

Safe Zone

Safe Zone is a free, on-the-night face-to-face mental health crisis support service for 11–17 year-olds and their parents/carers living in Leeds, BD4, BD11, WF3 and WF10, who need someone to talk to in a safe and confidential setting.

Safe Zone is staffed by experienced workers from Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service (LSLCS) who can offer around 45 minutes of emotional and practical support.

Safe Zone provides a hybrid approach, combining face-to-face support and telephone support from 4.00–10.00 pm, two days a week. Face-to-face support takes place at the following different locations:

  • Wednesday: Northpoint Wellbeing, Small Mill, Chadwick Street, LS10 1LJ
  • Thursday: Dial House, 12 Chapel Street, LS15 7RW

Please note that unfortunately we are no longer open on Mondays from 1st April 2024 and have moved locations for Wednesday evenings.

About us

Safe Zone is run by LSLCS which also provides Teen Connect, a helpline service open from 15:30–02:00 weekdays, 18:00–02:00 weekends, 365 days of the year that supports young people via phone, text and online.

Collectively, Safe Zone builds on this expertise to offer 11–17-year olds and their parents/carers one-to-one support with a Crisis Support Worker, who will offer a warm, compassionate, empathic, safe space to talk.

How to access Safe Zone
Self-referral

Safe Zone can be accessed through a referral, this can be either be from yourself, a parent or carer, or a professional.  For under 13s we will need parental or carer permission to attend Safe Zone. We encourage under 13s to visit Safe Zone with a parent and/or carer but if this is not possible we would require parental or carer permission to travel in a taxi on your own.

To make a referral, please call 0113 819 8189 or 07593 529367 between 16:00-20:30 on the day of support, with the last referral being taken at 20:30. Referrals operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

We will need to collect some basic information from you to ensure we can provide you with the best service and support possible. Young people and parents/carers will be supported separately, to ensure confidentiality is maintained. Please be aware, the team can see the phone number of any calls (except when number is withheld) and any text messages.

Professionals’ referral

If you are a professional, we do have a secure Safe Zone Professionals referral form which you can utilise to share information.  Please do ensure if a parent has requested support for their child that you make this clear on the form and that you provide parents’ contact details.
